State of disaster declared in KZN as president visits flood-ravaged areas

state of disaster's been declared in KZN after days of heavy rain wreaked havoc
in parts of the province.
"We have declared a state of disaster and we are embarking as a second step on collecting the information and ensuring the emergency interventions in all areas, this includes making sure people have accommodation, especially those whose houses were destroyed,” Premier Sihle Zikalala told the media on Wednesday.
Zikalala met with President Cyril Ramaphosa in Pinetown on Wednesday morning.

“It also includes ensuring that people have food and clothes to wear and to sleep, they will have shelters. Through the disaster management team, we were able to provide these needs to the people.
"We are now assessing the damage to
infrastructure, this includes the houses and roads that were destroyed. As well
as schools and bridges among other things.”
At least 59 people lost their lives in the province, 45 of them in eThekwini.
Ramaphosa will be given an update on the extent of the flood damage and the government's relief efforts, so far. Clermont, Lindelani and Ntuzuma are some of the areas the president will be visiting.
