Social worker to represent baby Siwaphiwe during case
A social worker will be assigned to Baby Siwaphiwe to advocate on her behalf as the case into her alleged kidnapping continues.
Staff members caring for the one-month-old at a place of safety say the newborn has been doing well.
"From there she came home with us. During her first night, she was absolutely perfect. She woke up once for a bottle and went straight back to sleep. She had a good bath and she really didn't fuss much - she likes to be held like most babies," she said.
Speaking to East Coast Radio's Jane Linley-Thomas, they said little Siwaphiwe will remain in their care until a court decision is made on who will take care of her.
The baby's mother had reported her missing on Friday, saying she'd been taken by hijackers in Durban.
Durban residents rallied at their local police stations to offer support and help in the search for the baby.
The child was found in her mother's care in the early hours of Sunday morning - in a car at the Marianhill Toll Plaza.
Three people, including Sibongile Mbambo, were arrested. Mbambo and Phumlani Mbokazi are due back in court tomorrow. The Durban Magistrates Court yesterday ordered that a DNA test be conducted to determine the biological father of Siwa.
