This includes Algoa FM which she joined in 1986.  Jill will present a specialist 60s and 70s show on East Coast Gold every Sunday from 10am until 2pm.

Gordon Graham caught up with her on his show this morning. Listen to the interview below to find out more.

Meanwhile, East Coast Radio’s Programming Manager, Zane Derbyshire says he's delighted that Jill is joining East Coast Gold.

“What excites me about Jill joining the Gold team is her incredible knowledge and passion for classic hits from the 60s and 70s. Not only does she bring a wealth of experience to the station, but she also has a natural, conversational style making you feel like she is sitting on the couch next to you chatting to you about your favourite songs.”

Jill says she has butterflies ahead of her debut show on Sunday. “I feel so privileged to become part of the family of Radio Legends on East Coast Gold as I start this exciting new chapter in my life. I look forward to sharing great music and fun with both my regular and new listeners on Sunday mornings.”

“During my time at Algoa, I was privileged to present every show from Breakfast to Sport to Late Night Talk. When I joined in 1986 I was working full-time as the Principal of the School of Radiography.  In January 1987 I took over the Afternoon Drive and this continued until April 1992 when I joined the SABC as a full time presenter on Algoa FM.”

Jill started on Algoa FM a few years after winning the prestigious ‘Voice of South Africa’ in 1981.Jill has also worked on Kingfisher FM as Programme Manager and presenter and on MannMade Radio.

What to expect

In Jill’s Sunday show on East Coast Gold, she’ll go ‘Down Memory Lane’ with your list of 60s and 70s hits between 11am and 12pm.

You can send through your list of around 15 of your favourites to [email protected].

Jill also has solid gold charts from around the world looking at what was charting that week in the 60s and 70s, plus many other new features.

“My favourite artists are Bill Haley, Roy Orbison, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Cliff Richard and Elvis. I also love the 50s and 60s rock and roll and most of the artists,” says Jill.

“I loved the disco sounds of the 70s, some of the harder rock from Van Halen, and of course Fleetwood Mac,” she adds.

When Jill is not on air, she loves spending time with her young grandchildren, doing all the things a proud granny does. She enjoys visits to coffee shops with friends.

“I love the sea. I find the constant movement of the water fascinating and invigorating,” says Jill.
