Swap the hustle and bustle of the city for a relaxing weekend in the forest.

Kosi Forest Lodge is paradise on earth for nature lovers.

The lodge, which overlooks Lake Shengeza, is situated within iSimangaliso Wetland Park - South Africa’s first World Heritage Site.

Guests will enjoy world class accommodation in one of the lodge’s tent-style thatched forest rooms. The rooms are nestled under wide milkwood trees and offer great views of the surrounding nature.

Kosi Forest Lodge is also perfectly situated for guests to explore some of the area’s top attractions.

Here’s a look at some of the things you can get up:

Guided walk in Raffia Palm Forest

If you love taking a stroll surrounded by beautiful flora and fauna, then a guided walk in Raffia Palm Forest will leave you feeling one with nature. Kosi Forest Lodge guests enjoy exploring the forest with local guides whose knowledge of the area make the walks more fascinating. Raffia palms grow up to 25 metres and their leaves are almost as long as the length of the tree itself!

Birdwatching in Twitcher’s Paradise

After enjoying a sumptuous breakfast at Kosi Forest Lodge, guests can take a trip to Twitcher’s Paradise for a few hours of birdwatching. The rich and diverse birdlife in the area includes forest, riverine, coastal, and grassland birds.

Boating day trips to the Kosi Lakes and beach

Not only is Kosi Forest Lodge surrounded by stunning nature and wildlife, but it is also near some of the region’s beautiful lakes and beaches, including Prisitine Bhanga Nek Beach – which is known for its gold sands and pristine seashore. You could also take an excursion to Kosi Bay mouth to snorkel and go lake or sea fishing with your family. Fly fishing and drop fishing is also available. Officials encourage guests to “tag and release”!

Visitors can also learn about the Kosi Bay Fish Traps, which is a traditional Tsonga fishing method used by locals for over 700 years.

Track turtles on the beach

Every year, from 15 December to 15 January, locals are treated to a beautiful sight – mother turtles returning to the beach to lay eggs. Both young and old guests will enjoy tracking these beautiful creatures.

4x4 Excursion to Kosi Bay Mouth

Explore your surroundings in one of the best ways possible – a 4x4 drive. Take in the sights as you make your way to Kosi Bay Mouth. When you get to the mouth you can go snorkeling in the warm waters or soak up the sun while enjoying a picnic.

Visit Tembe Elephant Park

Tembe Elephant Park is just one hour’s self-drive from Kosi Forest Lodge. As the name suggests, guests can expect to see majestic elephants going about their business in their natural habitat.
