Push your limits at Pietermaritzburg’s 12-hour endurance race this August
Updated | By East Coast Radio
If you think you can tackle a 12-hour race on the track solo or in a team, this event is for you.

A unique test of endurance is taking place in Pietermaritzburg this weekend, offering solo athletes and teams of three the chance to push their physical and mental limits. The 12-hour track race, hosted at the Collegians Club, is perfect for both runners and walkers who are brave enough to take the challenge on.
The event kicks off at 7:00 am on Saturday, 2 August, and is open to individuals or teams of up to three members. Runners and running teams must complete a minimum of 80 kilometres in the 12-hour window to be officially recognised as finishers, while walkers and walking teams must clock a minimum of 60 kilometres.
The race is capped at 100 runners and 50 walkers, with a team entry counting as one entrant. Only entries submitted on the official entry form are valid and must be completed before the closing date of 28 July.
Solo entrants must be at least 20-years-old on race day, while team members must each be 19 years or older. All competitors must wear their race numbers on the front of their upper body clothing and adhere strictly to event rules. No pacing or refunds are allowed, and seconding is limited to stand-and-hand support only.
In the team event, only one member is allowed on the track at a time and team strategy is completely open. Whether you split the laps evenly or rotate based on energy and speed, the timing chip (worn on the ankle) must be exchanged within the marked transition zone.
All team members must sign the indemnity form when entering or leaving the track.
This race is not about speed but about distance achieved within the 12-hour period. Whether you’re walking or running, solo or as a team, your final result will be based purely on how far you go.
