Interactive taste bud experience At East Coast Radio House & Garden Show

Durban is a melting pot of culture and a unique blend of diversity that makes it unlike any other city in the world. And nowhere is this more evident than Durban’s diverse gastronomical experiences on offer in its many restaurants and street food hotspots to be found around the city. As a testament to this, last year CNN Travel named Durban as the 4th best street food location in the world.

Tapping into this diverse and unique blend of cultures, expressed through a common love of food, is the 2018 East Coast Radio House & Garden Show which will showcase Durban’s best and unexplored foodie locations between 29 June and 8 July at the Durban Exhibition Centre.

Food lovers are in for a treat with an upgraded, bigger and better Foodie Fair, as well as a brand new dedicated interactive space, the Discover Durban Cuisine Kitchen, which will highlight the exciting developments on the local foodie scene.

“Our theme this year is Home is Where the Heart is and we want to capture the essence of home in every sense of the word. This includes the important role food plays in a home and the role cultures and upbringings play; diversity is one of the reasons we find Durban so special,” says Show Director, Cairey Baxter-Bruce.

This year’s show will highlight cultural, traditional, and contemporary food in the brand-new feature Discover Durban Cuisine Kitchen. In partnership with Durban Tourism and headed up by celebrity chef and Durban-local Sherwyn Weaich, the Discover Durban Cuisine Kitchen will celebrate local cooking talent with developing and renowned chefs, including Masterchef SA Chef Lungile Nhlanhla and the popular sister duo Chilli Chocolate Chefs, as they present their top tips, inspired flavour combinations and favourite dishes in an interactive demonstration kitchen.

According to Durban Tourism, culinary or food tourism, defined as the pursuit of unique and memorable eating and drinking experiences is among the growing trends within the industry. By combining travel with these edible experiences, a city is able to offer both locals and tourists alike an authentic taste of Durban.

Returning to the show is the much-loved Foodie Fair, bringing double the mouth-watering flavour to foodies. Offering delicious street food, desserts, artisanal and speciality delicacies, the Foodie Fair will showcase exactly why Durban is a top international street food destination.

“Many street food gems are found with an insider’s perspective and are tucked away on corners and avenues. We want to broadcast their existence so that KZN can enjoy a delectable journey through local food,” says Baxter-Bruce.

After all that eating and exploring, a variety of thirst-quenching refreshments will be available to tantalise all tastes, including a touch of botanicals in the Gin Garden Bar, local brews in craft beer areas, wine and food pairings, warm favourites at coffee stations and much more.

Be a part of the local culinary revolution and treat your senses at the East Coast Radio House & Garden Show, supported by Durban Tourism, taking place from 29 June to 8 July at the Durban Exhibition Centre.
