What you need to know about the new Elvis Presley movie

The movie about the King of Rock 'n Roll, Elvis Presley, is finally here. We take a look at what you can expect to see.

Elvis Presley shaped Rock 'n Roll. The three-time Grammy Award-winning legend rose to stardom in the 1950s and his music continues to be influential to this day. 

Although he passed away on 16 August 1977, his life and the influence he made in the entertainment industry can never be forgotten. 

Let's look at what to expect from a movie based on his life: 

- 'Elvis' the film hits cinemas from this Friday, 24 June.

- It stars Austin Butler as Elvis Presley. Butler also sings in some of the scenes, and in others, there is a mixture of his voice and Elvis'. 

- Tom Hanks stars as his manager Colonel Tom Parker.

- It is directed by Baz Luhrmann, an Australian film director, writer, and producer, who was directed the likes of 'Moulin Rouge' and 'The Great Gatsby'. He first announced that he was working on an Elvis Presley biopic back in 2014.

- The film's length is 2hr 39min.

- Other cast members include; Dacre Montgomery as Steve Binder, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Jimmi Rogers, Luke Bracey as Jerry Schilling, David Wenham as Hank Snow, and Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley. 

- The film looks at Elvis’s childhood, his relationships, and his rise to stardom. It also shows his relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, who “discovered” a young Elvis and forced himself into becoming his manager.

 - The film received a 12-minute standing ovation at The 75th Cannes Film Festival.
