This is how 'Saturday Night Fever' changed the music game.
'Saturday Night Fever' is the soundtrack from the movie with the same name. It is also the title track of the album that was released by the Bee Gees on 15 December 1977.
According to mentalfloss.com, 'Saturday Night Fever' was the top-selling soundtrack album of all time before being supplanted by 'The Bodyguard' some 15 years later. It sold over 15-million copies in the United States alone.
The album is also one of the best-selling albums of the 1970s.
What made it unique was that it brought disco into the mainstream. According to reports, the album was certified 16× Platinum in the United States.
It also won the award for the ‘Album of The Year’ at the 21st Grammy Awards on February 15, 1979, in Los Angeles.
Not only that, but songs from the album dominated the airwaves and topped charts.
It was the number one album on the Billboard chart for over one hundred weeks from 1978 until 1980.
Another enormous achievement that it received was that it was added to the National Recording Registry in the Library of Congress in 2012 for its significance.
