Karen Carpenter had such an angelic voice.

She was described as one of the greatest female vocalists of all time by Rolling Stone.

The singer would have celebrated her 71st birthday today, 2 March 2020. Sadly, she died on 4 February 1983 from heart failure. This was related to her long struggle with anorexia.

Carpenter started singing at a young age and could play the drums and bass guitar. Her first band was Two Plus Two, which was made up of three females - her friends from Downey High School.

After that, she became a part of The Carpenters band where she got to work with her brother, Richard. Some of their hit songs include, '(They Long to Be) Close to You' and 'We've Only Just Begun'.

Later, the songbird went solo and released her debut album, 'Looking for Love' / 'I'll Be Yours', in 1967.

The last song she recorded was called 'Now', which was released in April 1982.

Her self-titled album was released in 1996, years after her passing.
