- He also earned a slate of international awards, including the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres (Knight of Arts and Letters) by the French Government and an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH, USA. 

- In 2012, the South African government awarded him the Order of Ikhamang (Silver).
