Celebrating the legend that was Freddie Mercury
Updated | By East Coast Gold
This Saturday, we’re all about Freddie Mercury, who would’ve turned 74 had he still been alive.
Farrokh Bulsara, better known to the masses as Freddie Mercury, was born on 5 September 1946 in Zanzibar.
Freddie Mercury had star power. He knew how to command a stage. He knew how to get the crowd going. He was a special talent the likes of which we have not seen since his passing in 1991.
While his life was cut short due to Bronchopneumonia as a complication of AIDS, he lived his years on this earth with passion, desire, and a star power which made him popular the world over.

Mercury's name was made as the lead singer of Queen. He was exuberant. He was, as some have coined it, "exotic". He did things on his own terms and those terms are what made him and his band global superstars.
While Mercury did dabble in solo projects, the reality is that Queen was his home. Queen were nothing without their lead singer - and Mercury was nothing without his band. It was a match made in heaven and the angels are thankful for that.
As the consummate professional that he was, Mercury continued to create and perform music right up until his dying days. Even towards the end, his ability to hit the right notes were a thing of beauty, as can be seen in the video for 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives' below.
To celebrate the late, great Freddie Mercury on what would have been his 74th birthday, East Coast Gold will be featuring 60-minutes of non-stop Freddie Mercury magic this Saturday from 9-10am with Gordon Graham. We’ll also be playing more of Queen’s tracks throughout the day, so tune in this Saturday!
Thank you for the memories, Freddie.
