KZN does its part to save a life thanks to blood drive...
From a moment of tragedy to tears of joy as Blake Allbon received several units of O-negative blood after the school appealed to the public to donate to increase his chances.
Westville Boys High School took it upon themselves to ask the people of KwaZulu-Natal to give their O-negative pints of blood.

This comes after a shortage of O blood type in the province generally.
According to IOL, there was a blood drive which was held at the Westville Boys High on Tuesday.
The school itself used their media connections to encourage the public to donate at other blood donor centres.

People far and wide managed to offer their support and donated their O-negative blood.
According to the Red Cross organisation, O-negative blood is the most common blood type used for transfusions when the blood type is uncommon.
It's used most often in cases of trauma, emergency, surgery, and any situation where the blood type is unknown.
O-negative blood is a universal blood type.
According to the school, their pupil is doing okay and is feeling much better.
"His temperature has risen, but that is being managed by the doctors and his HB (haemoglobin) is still low," says Westville Boys High School statement.

The school also is confident that Blake should be out of hospital by the end of the week.
"Blake received 7 units of blood in total after massive bleeding. While he doesn't need another transfusion, donations will still going along way to save many more lives," the school added.
