According to Henley and Partners, there are 11 countries that a person can simply buy citizenship from.

One of the most popular options for doing this is to buy citizenship in another country. 

While this may be a controversial decision for some, it’s becoming increasingly popular for those looking for new opportunities abroad.

Here’s a look at three of the countries that offer citizenship opportunities for South Africans... but it will cost you a pretty penny:

Austria, Europe 

  1. Minimum capital: Substantial contribution to the Austrian economy
  2. Processing time: 24-36 months
  3. Main benefit: The ability to become an EU citizen with one of the strongest passports in the world.

Türkiye, Europe 

  1. Investment: USD 400,000 (R7,300,000)
  2. Processing time: About 120 days
  3. Main benefit: You can have free movement to Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore.

Jordan, Middle East

  1. Investment: USD 750,000 (R13,700,000)
  2. Processing time: Three months
  3. Main benefit: The right to work, live, and study in Jordan.
