Proof needed for motorists with expired licences

Proof is all that is needed for expired licence users!
All car users in South Africa who have expired driver's licences must show proof of their attempt to renew it.
This should happen if ever a driver gets pulled over by the traffic officials.
This comes after Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula issued a grace period for driver's licence card renewals due to a backlog in the system.

The Minister has also warned motorists that they should still go to the traffic department to try and renew their licences.
There are factors of course that would be an exception to the rule brought forward by Mbalula and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).
For example, there would be people who would have already applied for driver's licences but are waiting to collect it.

CEO of RTMC Makhosini Msibi has stressed that all drivers who are facing a problem of having expired licences should keep their old cards, but also have their receipt of renewal with them.
Those whose licence cards expired outside the grace period window, can remain valid for another three months after expiry, if you provide proof that you applied for a new card.- Makhosini Msibi
According to Outa’s Executive director of Accountability Stefanie Fick, any document or photographic picture should be proof of attempts to renew.

This together with the expired licence card should be enough for the traffic officer that might have stopped you.
It would also show that you didn't intentionally refuse to renew your licence.
