The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are working with the NAACP to continue their bid of fighting the spread of misinformation and racism online.

Prince Harry and Megan Markle have recently joined a campaign created by the NAACP, Color for Change and Defamation League called #StopHateForProfit which is aimed at urging businesses to stop advertising on Facebook. This follows a number of failed attempts by the organisations to get the social media platform to stop the spread of racist hate speech.

Regulating hate speech has been a growing concern on social media in recent weeks following various comments made by users regarding the #BlackLivesMatter protests which took place after the brutal murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, USA. Most recently,  Facebook refused to heed the call to flag American President Donald Trump's post which suggested that looters at the anti-racism protests will get shot at.

A message on the Stop Hate For Profit website reads: "Let’s send Facebook a powerful message: Your profits will never be worth promoting hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism and violence."

Over 100 business have already taken a stand by pulling their advertisements off Facebook, one major company being Coca Cola which will not advertise for 30 days.

A source told People that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been keen to address the issue of online hate speech, and have been working with civil rights and racial justice groups on the matter.

Praising the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in a tweet, Derrick Johnson who is the President of the NAACP wrote: "Thank you for embodying the kind of leadership that meets the moment," he wrote. "The @NAACP deeply value your unwavering support to #StopHateForProfit."
