There were thousands, but one of the earliest escape attempts to bypass the Berlin Wall was by Heinz Meixner in 1963. 

He removed a convertible's windshield and deflated its tires as low as possible. 

He, his fiancée, and her mother drove up to the boom barrier and slipped underneath it, escaping into West Berlin.

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon - or Bacon's Law, is a parlor game where players challenge each other to arbitrarily choose an actor. 

You then connect them to another actor via a film that both actors have appeared in together, repeating this process to try to find the shortest path that ultimately leads to Kevin Bacon. 

Facebook found in 2016 that on average, any two people are only 3.57 degrees of separation apart.
