With the weekend officially upon us, here are five things you need to know before you get out of bed:

After leader Vladimir Putin announced a "partial mobilisation" of citizens for his faltering invasion of Ukraine, more than 1,300 people were detained across Russia for participating in nationwide anti-war protests, with some directly conscripted into the military. On Thursday, Eskom announced that Stage 5 loadshedding will remain in place until 05:00 on Saturday morning.

PUBG, the battle royale game, will be banned in Afghanistan in 90 days as the Taliban says it is a waste of time and too violent. Also, more than 400 civilians have been killed by the Taliban since their takeover.

Woolworths has launched two new lipstick ranges in celebration of spring in South Africa that are specially packaged in environmentally friendly paper and bamboo tubes.
