Research has shown that companies who embrace diversity and inclusivity outperform those with a homogeneous workforce. But there are many more reasons why a diverse workforce is important.

At a very basic level, ask yourself how many times you get into a discussion with someone from outside your normal circle, and walk away thinking, “I wouldn’t have thought of it that way. That’s an interesting insight or take on the issue.” 


That’s diversity and inclusivity at work. The old adage, “You cannot expect different results if you keep doing the same thing” is also true for human contact and engagement.

We really cannot expect to learn new things, explore different solutions, and be more creative if we only surround ourselves with people who look like us, talk like us, and think like us. 

Your recruitment, hiring, and onboarding practices, as well as your culture, mentoring, and team-building process, should all be geared towards diversity and inclusivity, if you hope to reap the rewards associated with this.
