The annual event, which has become a firm favourite with the people of KwaZulu-Natal, sees walkers weave their way along the beachfront from uShaka Marine World to the finish at Moses Mabhida People’s Park.

East Coast Radio’s General Manager Boni Mchunu says the day was a huge success thanks to their listeners, “Watching more than 31 000 people walk alongside each other as ‘sole mates’ was both heart-warming and humbling. People of different ages and fitness levels made it a day filled with happy times and camaraderie with our beautiful city as their backdrop.”

East Coast Drive’s Phat Joe and Mags cheered on the participants at the starting line and presenters kept the vibe upbeat throughout the route. This year saw the introduction of a 5km fun run, over and above the traditional walking events. More 3500 runners enjoyed this event.

Discovery’s Chief Marketing Officer, Dinesh Govender, says, “As a passionate runner, I know that running and walking are brilliant forms of low-impact exercise. It’s inexpensive, accessible, fits into nearly every busy lifestyle and burns fat while releasing feel-good stress-reducing hormones.”

“Exercise does more for your health and happiness than you could ever imagine. At Discovery we believe your vitality is your greatest gift to yourself. Every single walker and runner can be proud of what they have achieved this year,” he says.

The day’s excitement didn’t just stop at the finish line. Walkers and runners caught their breathe while being entertained at Moses Mabhida People’s Park by DJ Deon Govender, MC Darren Maule, Comedian Carvin Goldstone and an exercise class by Virgin Active.
