Level 3 of the national lockdown has been activated, which means people can buy alcohol again.

Liquor outlets and other stores – can now officially resume sales but only from Monday to Thursday and until 5pm. 

Under lockdown Level 3, which took effect this morning, people can purchase bottles of their favourite alcoholic beverages – but need to drink them at home. 

Economic Development MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube says a total of 8 000 liquor licence holders in KwaZulu-Natl are expected to sell alcohol.

The department's spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya says businesses that violate the strict COVID-19 restrictions could have their licences suspended.

"Where any licence holder is found to have violated any of the provisions contained in the regulations or the sale of liquor in terms of the KZN Liquor Licensing Act, the KZN liquor authority will recommend the suspension of the license until the end of the lockdown or for three months."
