South Africa's COVID-19 deaths surpass 15 000

South Africa's reached another grim milestone in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic - with the number of virus-related deaths moving past the 15 000 mark.

One hundred and fifteen people - diagnosed with coronavirus - have lost their lives in last 24 hours - taking the total number of fatalities nationally to 15 004.
Over 2 300 people have died in KwaZulu-Natal, since the start of the pandemic on home soil.
But on a positive note, the number of new cases in the country - dipped to below the 1 000 mark.

Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize says they've recorded 854 infections, since Sunday night.
More than 566 000 people have recovered from coronavirus - moving our recovery rate up to 88.6 percent.
KZN's recorded over 114 000 cases and 102 000 recoveries.
