South Africa's COVID-19 cases soar, death toll now at 131

As South Africa's COVID-19 infections climb - health officials have recorded another eight fatalities, bringing the death toll now to 131.

We've seen a massive increase in the number of confirmed cases in a single day. 


Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the number of cases has gone up by 447 - sending the tally of those diagnosed with the coronavirus to 6 783 


KwaZulu-Natal has recorded 1 076 cases and 34 deaths. There've been 375 recoveries. 


Mkhize says nationally, almost a quarter of a million people have been tested in the private and public sectors. 


Meanwhile, the Western Cape remains South Africa's epicentre of the outbreak with more than 3 000 infections.
