South Africa records 74 new COVID-19 deaths

Another 74 people have died after contracting COVID-19, bringing South Africa’s coronavirus-related death toll to 1 284.

The number of positive cases now stands at 58 568. This is an increase of 3 147 new cases, since Wednesday evening.


The number of people diagnosed with the virus in KZN has increased by 125 to 3 472.


Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said the country has a mortality rate of 2.2%.


The Western Cape has reported a total of 39 new deaths, followed by the Eastern Cape with 31 and 4 from North West.

 

The number of people who have recovered stands at 33 252 - which translates to a rate of 56.8%. 


Over a million tests have been conducted in the country.
