Plans to increase staff in healthcare sector
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
The Health Ministry is planning to increase staff numbers in the healthcare sector as it intensifies efforts to fight COVID-19.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize made the announcement on Thursday while evaluating the Eastern Cape's response to the coronavirus outbreak.
The province has the second-highest death toll in the country. Mkhize says frontline workers are vital to fighting this pandemic.
"This has really been a challenge, and we have to now try to catch-up. We will be looking at that kind of solution."

Mkhize says health facilities that are being built during this time will also come in handy when the National Health Insurance (NHI) is implemented.
"For NHI, all the nurses that we employ now will need more of those during NHI. The doctors that we need now that we want to employ will need more of those during the NHI."
