KZN authorities crackdown on level 4 rule-breakers
Over 800 people have been arrested for lockdown non-compliance in KwaZulu-Natal, since the beginning of this month.
Premier Sihle Zikalala made the announcement on Monday morning at the Marianhill Toll Plaza, where police and health officials have been conducting checks and screening motorists at a roadblock.
Some industries and businesses have been allowed to reopen from the 1 May, under revised level four regulations. And the police are making sure that those on the road today are following the rules.
Zikalala says 826 people have been arrested for contravention of the lockdown regulations in roadblocks across the province, since the implementation of level four of the lockdown.
"There are still people who are breaking the regulations, but we are happy with the screening and testing programme."
He says level four does not mean that residents can move around as they wish.
"We cannot be all over during this time. We still need to ensure that we remain conscious that this virus is still here and it that it is dangerous to the lives of our people, so let's protect ourselves."
