JUST IN: SA COVID-19 cases now at 2415

The number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 2415, an increase of 143.
National Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize made the remarks at the O R Tambo International Airport where a consignment of medical supplies has arrived after being donated to the country from the Chinese government.
He says over 87 000 tests have been conducted.

There are 489 cases in KwaZulu-Natal. "We are now seeing a lot more of the testing coming from the public sector. We got teams that are out there screening our communities and referring more people for testing. I believe this is the way that South Africa will be able to deal with the pandemic by sending out teams to identify people who might be at risk," he said

Mkhize says the government is currently focusing on the protection of medical professionals. "This donation will contribute significantly to ensure that we are able to get our staff protected against this infection because they are at the forefront of the infection. We want to thank the people of China for their support," said Mkhize.
