eThekwini Municipality targeted in 'hoax' virus message
Updated | By Newswatch
eThekwini's Cleansing and Solid Waste Unit has issued a reminder about its services.
It says waste management will continue uninterrupted for the duration of the lockdown.
The unit says there are fake messages circulating on social media claiming that staff had downed tools.
The notice says workers won't be doing their job, due to the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPEs).
City officials say this is not true as staff - at the forefront of day-to-day waste collection duties - have been issued with the required PPEs.
Head of Department, Raymond Rampersad says no one is on strike and that refuse removal services are continuing.

The Municipality has urged residents to take the national lockdown seriously and stay at home.
It says some people have been dumping refuse outside waste sites.
eThekwini officials say this has to stop.
During the lockdown, it's "unlawful" to leave your home for this practice.
They have stressed it also leaves DSW workers - who have to clean up - vulnerable as they're exposed to various health risks, including infections.
