COVID-19 hits Durban nursing homes
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
The Association for the Aged says the number of residents diagnosed with COVID-19 has risen to 13.
It's also recorded its first fatality.
Five residents contracted coronavirus at Durban's Langeler Towers, two at Tafta on Ridge, four at Tafta Park, one at Kings Hall and another at Tafta Lodge.
Last month, the residential home - which houses about 2000 people - recorded its first case of COVID-19.

Tafta CEO Femada Shamam says residents have been receiving counselling to help them deal with the loss.
"Three of our residents are in hospital. The rest of them are isolating in buildings where they live. The resident who passed on was 80-years-old.
"The elders are being offered support by the social work team who is also teamed up with external resources, for example, SADAC, who assist with the grief counselling and bereavement issues. The first couple who tested positive have recovered."
