COVID-19 'anxiety, panic and fear' plague teachers, pupils: Union
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) is concerned about the lack of psychological support for teachers and pupils as learning continues despite the increase in COVID-19 cases.

The teachers union says there should be some sort of emotional support for pupils and teachers as they live in daily fear of contracting the virus.
SADTU Provincial Secretary, Nomarashiya Caluza says it is a reality that schools are not coping and the government needs to reconsider its decision to phase in more students in July.

She says in some areas, some teachers and learners come into the school without being screened.
"What is frustrating is that there is no psychosocial support that is given to these teachers and learners.
"There is anxiety, there's panic and fear which is justified in the absence of the emotional support to our teachers," says Caluza.
