Miley Cyrus' new song 'Malibu' debuted at number one on Thursday after record sales in America.

The single reached the top of the US iTunes Sales Chart within hours.

It was also number one on the Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart, which puts it on course to make a big debut on the Billboard Hot 100.

'Malibu' is Miley's first solo song in four years. The track was inspired by her fiancé actor Liam Hemsworth.

Not only is the love song about Liam, but he also took the picture for the single's cover art.

The video for the track has already been watched more than two-million times on You Tube.

'Malibu' is the first single off Miley's upcoming album, set for release later this year.

The song has been praised by her fans, and music critics.

Katy Perry also took to Twitter to give Miley props for the single.

"Love this song," she tweeted.

Miley is set to perform the song live for the first time at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards on May 22.
