East Coast Radio

During these uncertain times, The Big Favour teamed up with LottoStar to make a difference to 50 families during the lockdown period. In the space of two weeks, R500,000 will be given away to help these families be at ease.

Recipient 1

Nominator NameCliff McLean

Nominee NameJonathan Neumann

Jonathan, an electronics Technician, has to look after his elderly mom and dad. His dad, confined to bed, has Alzheimer's and cancer. His mom is confined to a wheelchair and cannot do any of the household chores. Jonathan and his brother and sister live in the same house with their parents. His brother, Ryan, was hit by a motorist while riding his bicycle last year and broke his neck and is slowly recovering. The government pensions for the parents do not go far at all. The Neumann Family would be most deserving of a Big Favour right now.

Recipient 2

Nominator Name: Nicholas Ndlela

Nominee Name: Lifa Ntuli

The Ntuli family in Wyebank area close to Pinetown consists of three family members. They have a young son that attends primary school. No one in the family is employed, meaning they don’t have a reliable source of income. To make ends meet, Mr Ntuli learnt a trade as a welder and uses his metal skills to make metal burglar bars for windows and doors. With the hardware stores being closed due to lockdown, he cannot get access to buy his supplies. His wife Zodwa is a waste recycler. She collects cupboards and sells them to the waste buy-back centres.

Recipient 3

Nominator Name: Vincent Monchusi

Nominee Name: Sarah Mgqaluza

Sarah Mgqaluza lives in a very disadvantaged informal settlement where poverty is the biggest factor that affects the lives of the community members negatively. It has been worse for them during this lockdown and so heartbreaking because Sarah used to sell sweets at school and her husband would live off doing piece-jobs to put bread on the table. Now that everything has stopped, their lives have taken a real knock. It would really be a huge privilege if East Coast Radio in partnership with LottoStar could please bless this unfortunate family with some groceries to better their situation. God bless.

Recipient 4

Nominator Name: Rashid Shaik

Nominee Name: Elaine Pillay

Elaine is a self-employed hairdresser. With the income from that she supports her household and pays her bills. Since the start of the pandemic, the business has been slow which means income has been minimal. Whatever cash she had, she has made sure there will be enough food during the lockdown. Elaine is a very kind-hearted and selfless person that always has other people’s interests at heart and puts others needs first before her own. She really deserves this cash injection and it would really relieve her of her current stress.

Recipient 5

Nominator Name: Beverley Moorgas

Nominee Name: Frank Fynn

Frank is an independent construction contractor and he serves his community as a pastor. He is always willing to help our family as well as the community in times of need. He gives continuous employment to about 10-15 men every day whether there is work or not. He has exceptional manners and a sunny disposition. He supports his family and also his elderly mother. He also fosters troubled youths in an attempt to teach them a trade and 'how to fish' for themselves, eventually. Due to the lockdown, he is out of work and I know that if he receives this money he will not only use it for his family but he will share it with those that are in need and pay-it-forward.
