Police in Canada have a bizarre punishment planned for motorists caught drinking and driving during the festive season.

Kensington Police have warned that drunk drivers will be forced to listen to Nickelback’s album, ‘Silver Side Up’, while being driven to prison.

“Kensington Police Service will be out for the remainder of year looking for those dumb enough to feel they can drink and drive. And when we catch you, and we will catch you, on top of a hefty fine, a criminal charge and a year’s driving suspension we will also provide you with a bonus gift of playing the offices copy of Nickelback in the cruiser on the way to jail,” a post on their Facebook page reads.

Kensington Police say the band was partly chosen because lead singer Chad Kroeger has previously been nabbed for driving under the influence of alcohol.

And of course the fact that Nickelback’s single ‘Rockstar’ has been labelled one of the Canadian rock band’s worst singles is a bonus.

The song made it onto a Wikipedia page titled, ‘List of music considered the worst’, alongside Justin Bieber’s “Baby’ and Rebecca Black’s “Friday’.

“So please, let’s not ruin a perfectly good unopened copy of Nickelback. You don't drink and drive and we won't make you listen to it,” the since deleted Facebook post stated
