The ultimate last-minute Christmas shopping guide

This is the year you shed your bad Christmas gifting reputation and wow your loved ones because trust me, there is no better gift than giving…something nice.

Are you that guy? That irritating aunt that gives every family member a matching biscuit tin? Are you really that busy?

This is the year you shed your bad Christmas gifting reputation and wow your loved ones because trust me, there is no better gift than giving…something nice.

Here’s a quick breakdown on some gift ideas of what to buy - and you don’t even have to leave your laptop. Do it all online!

For him:

Guys are always difficult to buy for. Sometimes just a fresh cold six pack could do the trick but seeing as though you have that 13th cheque why not spoil him a little. They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach but I have found that shoes work just as well. How about a pair of classic Converse? Everyone has a black pair, so bust out a tangerine pair; it’s THE colour of Summer 2013. Buy yours here for R599.

If he wouldn’t be seen dead in tangerine then settle for a pair of Dickies lace ups for R299.

For Her:

I know she says she wants something small but this is a perfect example of “Yes” means “No” and “No” means “Yes” in women language. Best you get her something personal and thoughtful. Perfume always does the trick. Thankfully you have me and Red Square. They are holding a 15% Sale on ALL fragrances until December 24. I know, awesome! Have a look at what she already wears or I always recommend the Carolina Herrera 212 (original). It’s not a heavy fragrance; it’s young and fresh but also very sophisticated and works on most skin types. It’s definitely a winner. You can thank me later ;)

For The Mother-In-Law:

This is always a tricky one and the only way to win the hearts of the in laws is with effort. So take the time to find out what really blows her back. A book is always a good choice, though the only catch is the 14 day delivery process on http://www.kalahari.com. The annual Zapiro book is on the list of bestsellers, and classics like The Alchemist and The Catcher in the Rye could keep you in the good books. Otherwise a subscription to her favourite magazine is the gift that keeps on giving. Don’t even start about the latest Grazia app, that’s probably why she doesn’t like you. Just follow this link to subscribe to ELLE Deco

For Your Mum:

One could quite easily use the above tips for your own mum but if your mum is anything like my mother, you know better than that. Whenever I’m stuck on what to buy for someone, I always think of how I want them to feel. I would want nothing more than for my darling mother to feel special, loved and taken care of for once. Mothers always seem to be worrying and caring for someone else. If just for one day she could put her feet up and feel like a princess that is what I would wrap up. The first thing that comes to mind is a pamper present. A full body massage at the Suncoast Towers could do the trick. But if that’s a bit too spendy, give her the same feeling with these ornate wine glasses for R29 each from Mr Price Home.

For Your Dad:

With dad’s it’s always the little things that count. Dads seem to be serious about house rules but always keen for some fun. This year you can hit the nail on the head with a gift for your dad. I love the dart board for R79.99 at Mr Price Home.

Throw in a few general house rules too with a “No Smoking Sign” for R19.99 also at Mr Price Home.

For Your Sister:

Shopping for your sister is always the most fun. Siblings always know each other best so the options are endless. Have a long leisurely browse through this blog for something fabulous. I purchased this gorgeous artwork for under R300, how special? Don’t worry, she’s frolicking on a white sandy beach, far too busy be reading this, so I wouldn’t have ruined her surprise.

For the Tag Along:

Every family has one. Usually a friendly lurker that you know nothing about but will be hanging around your Christmas lunch so you might as well make it less awkward and get the critter a little something. In this case, you may do the Woolworths Biscuit tin for R199.99. And yes, there are cheaper options!
