Fake EFT scam rife
Updated | By Diane Macpherson
Sagrie wants to report a con-artist operating on the free online classifieds platforms.

She’s been trying to sell an exercise machine and got a call last week from a man calling himself Jacob who wanted to buy the equipment.
He did a fake EFT, and paid R1000 more than the asking price saying that was for delivery.
He called back saying he’d made a cash deposit and asking when he could get the equipment. He then asked for the extra R1000 back too.
Fortunately Sagrie smelt a rat and told him he’d only get the item when there was bank confirmation the money was in his account.
She’s since Googled his cellphone number and seen that he’s linked to many fraud cases.
Well done Sagrie for being so sharp.
Job scam alert
Heather emailed to query if a job prospect she’s encountered is legit if they are asking for a R299 admin fee.
In this case it was a work from home email application processing post.
As we have said many times before on this show, no legit business will ask for an up-front payment so you can work for them.
Please do not let your desperation for the work blind you to this.
