Charity conartist using ECR name

Luanne wants to warn listeners about a man who claims to be raising money for follow up hospital treatment for a three-year-old boy with a severely deformed mouth.

Crimewatch tin
A man calling himself Shane walked into Luanne's offices in Cato Ridge last Tuesday requesting company or staff donations. His opening words were 'Do you listen to East Coast Radio?', as this week we'd supposedly been showing our support on radio for his cause. He claimed the operation that was done had cost R42 000 and follow up treatment would be R11 000 which he couldn't afford. While we are aware of numerous fundraising drives for people needing expensive treatment, this isn't one of them. He's using the ECR name in vain. I've checked with Damon Beard too in case he was aware of this case through his Big Favour. He isn't. Damon says a legitimate Big Favour case would see ECR approach a company on the person's behalf and not the other way round. He's happy to verify if he's working on a case - if people use the Big Favour name in their fundraising story - just drop him an email on [email protected].

Community crime meeting

Finally, the Woodhurst Sub-Forum will be meeting on Wednesday at 19:00 at the Woodhurst Multi-Cultural Centre near the library. Guest speakers will include SAPS management. Vital information regarding crime will be discussed and residents are urged to attend.
