Be careful with your home security on hot KZN nights

A security company has advised residents to be vigilant and despite the hot weather to ensure that all windows and doors are adequately secured at night.

Crimewatch B&B
The advice from Blue Security comes after armed robbers held up a couple during a home invasion in Fielden Drive in Glenmore last Wednesday night and robbed them of their two vehicles, TV and other valuables. Blue Security says the robbers had gained entry by climbing over the front wall while the woman was watching TV at about 10.30pm. It's understood her door had and security gate had both been open. The suspects then woke up her husband then gagged and tied up the couple before ransacking the place.

“If you have doors and windows open at night make sure that the security gates are closed because while this might not prevent crime, it is a deterrent and will buy time to run and hide in a safe room in the house. This room should be equipped with a spare panic remote and a charged cellphone so that you can call for help in an emergency,” said Blue Security.

Unsolicited calls offering vouchers with a catch

Nalini was annoyed to receive phone calls from a woman claiming to be from a travel company, and asking her if she'd received her R10 000 holiday voucher and R9000 shopping card yet. Nalini replied no, and asked what this was all about. The woman said the vouchers would be sent soon and that Nalini's number had been randomly selected. She then explained that in order for Nalini to receive the vouchers she must pay a R300 once-off payment for registration to which our listener responds 'no thanks!' The sales person then got quite aggressive apparently and Nalini cut the call. She emailed to let us know so that others can be aware of this hoax.
