In a world full of dreams and perseverance, Arnav stands as a shining example of youthful ambition and resilience.

At just 21, this medical student from Shallcross is doing what many only dream of: running the Comrades Marathon.

He’s not just known for his academic pursuits at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). His commitment to charity is what truly makes Arnav stand out, and he’s embodying the spirit of Youth Month with his inspirational journey.

Arnav joined Zisto on East Coast Radio’s Weekend Breakfast to speak on the upcoming race.

Arnav spoke on how he balances the demands of medical school and marathon training, stating, "The biggest thing was using running as an outlet," he shared, emphasising how he doesn't see it as an obstacle but rather as a privilege.

Running is his way to de-stress, "a time to chill" amidst life's chaos. This healthy perspective reinforces how he navigates two demanding pursuits with grace and determination.

Arnav isn’t just running for fun - he’s running for a cause. His decision to run for charity is deeply personal. Supporting the Childhood Cancer Foundation (CHOC) holds significance for him.

He expressed, "Being able to run and complete this mammoth of a task is a privilege on its own, and if I'm not using my power and my privilege for good, then what am I doing with it?"

He recently turned 21, which is a huge a milestone, and Arnav chose to celebrate this significant birthday uniquely.

The night before the marathon, he’s focusing on relaxing and carbo-loading, with his true party planned to unfold on the marathon day itself. "My birthday party is tomorrow with 22,000 other runners on the road just celebrating," he excitedly shared.

Arnav recognised the support of his family and friends as crucial in his journey. He expressed heartfelt gratitude, especially towards his parents and sister, noting their unwavering encouragement despite the challenges posed by his young age.

"This journey isn't about me; it's about everyone," he said, highlighting the communal spirit that fuels his extraordinary journey.

To all the young people aiming to achieve their goals, Arnav advises a straightforward approach: "Commit to the plan. If you want to do something, go for it. Don't listen to anyone, because if you really want something, you'll get it done."

As Arnav lines up to take part in the world-renowned Comrades Marathon, he’s not only chasing a personal dream but inspiring a community.

His journey is a testament to the power of dedication, self-belief, and the willingness to give back. In a world that often underestimates the capabilities of youth, Arnav stands as a testament to what young people can achieve when they dare to dream big.

Arnav’s story is not just about running; it’s about the pursuit of excellence, the beauty of resilience, and the impact of community spirit.

As the waves of East Coast Radio listeners cheer him on, Arnav carries with him not just his dreams, but the hopes of many others who see themselves in his journey.
