Doctors successfully remove TV remote battery from toddler's stomach
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Sounds crazy but this is super scary and super real!

It's quite common for children to put things in their mouth, ears, noses and hair.
And most of the time, it is harmless, but there are number of occasions when this could be extremely harmful to their health and wellbeing.
In this case, it was a two-year-old who swallowed the television remote battery.
Gastroenterologist Jayakumar from the NIMS Hospital in the capital city outskirts of Kerala said,
"The child, Rishikesh, was brought here after his parents first took him to a local hospital near their house.
When we heard what happened, we immediately alerted the operation theatre and gave anaesthesia to the kid.
In about 20 minutes, the battery was taken out from his stomach. Had it got deposited elsewhere, then things would have become very difficult." (MSN)
The doctors were able to successfully remove the battery and it was definitely due to their fast thinking and quick action, plus their experience that the child is recovering well.

The child, Rishikesh was playing with the battery and then swallowed it, and as much as this may sound crazy to a non-parent, kids put everything in their mouths, most of the time unconciously.
"The five-centimetre-long and one-and-a-half centimetre wide battery used in a TV remote was swallowed by the child while playing with it." (MSN)
In another incident that occurred last year, a two-year-old who ingested the remote battery passed away. Her mother had only realised that she had swallowed the battery when she found the remote with a missing battery.
