Australia's unique animals are a major drawcard for international visitors; and many zoos in Australia are among the world's best.

Zoos and wildlife sanctuaries in Australia undertake vital environmental education and research for the conservation of endangered animals.

There's some amazing footage of a female orangutan in Perth Zoo who managed to escape from her enclosure in a desperate bid to rescue her baby who had fallen into a nearby garden when playing on some equipment.

The video is quite amazing though, because it shows the mom sitting on the railing, almost waiting for the zoo's visitors to move away before making her way back to the enclosure with her baby on her back.

Luckily, mother and baby were reunited and are safely back in their enclosure.
