Lay-buy heroes: Good Samaritans are paying off lay-bye debt of strangers
Updated | By ECR
South Africans are proving that generosity is never out of fashion by giving monetary gifts to unsuspecting strangers.

According to Compare Guru, our country is one of the most indebted countries in the world, with debt topping over R1.7-trillion! Most of this debt is accumulated through the December period. When it's the Festive Season, many people feel the need to buy even when they know deep down they cannot afford it. We came across a good story of South Africans trying to help others.
According to Business Insider, an anonymous person settled 363 lay-bye accounts at a single Pep store in Western Cape, while many additional accounts have also been settled by donors part of the Facebook group #ImStaying.
An unknown man has donated R337,000 to settle 363 lay-buy accounts at a Pep branch in Mossel Bay, Western Cape and sent each of the people a note: “I am grateful that I’m in a position to settle your PEP Store lay-buy."
This has struck a chord with other members of the community who have thus joined in on the good deed of paying lay-byes and sharing it on the Facebook group #ImStaying, which has more than a million members to date.
