Meet Karen Matthews, Britain’s most hated mom

Seriously, what is wrong with people? On Monday we featured a mother who publicly slapped her special needs child in a crowded restaurant, and now this?!

Karen Matthews has been labelled ‘Britain’s most hated mom’ after she staged a fake kidnapping on 19 February 2008 of her daughter Shannon in an attempt to collect cash as a reward. Luckily, Shannon was found safe and alive on March 14 at an accomplice’s flat. Karen was sentenced to prison for eight years after being found guilty of abducting Shannon. 

Since her imprisonment, Karen has given up her bad habits and found refuge in God. However, she cannot find a job and is battling to survive on government benefits. She has spoken out, apologised for the incident, and begged for forgiveness for what she has done. 

What kind of mother would stage a fake kidnapping of her daughter? In pondering this, a desperate mother, that's who! Can you imagine being desperate that the idea and follow through of such a plan would make sense?!

I'm just wondering how the daughter has dealt with this whole ordeal? It must have been such a terrible experience for her.
