Thieves steal used cooking oil

The strange story behind why more and more thieves are stealing used cooking oil.

Restaurant grease is liquid gold to some thieves and they’ll do anything to get their hands on it.
Because it’s used in the biofuel industry, leftover cooking oil can be a lucrative and attractive target for criminals who want to make a quick buck.

This month, cops have apprehended at least one thief, Alvaro Mendez Flores, for stealing hundreds of gallons of grease from a Burger King in Annandale, Virginia.
Flores was reportedly making up to R7,000 per grease heist.
He was caught by surveillance cameras, which showed him using a generator to pump the grease on April 4 at around 3:30am before being apprehended.
