Confession Session: What's the one lie you told your parents growing up?
Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
Be it a blatant one or just a little white lie, we've all concealed the truth from our parents at some point or the other. Jane decided to share her story in Wednesday's edition of Jane's World.
Listen to Wednesday's Jane's World below:
Parents usually lie to their kids to protect them from the truth. At times, children tend to lie to their parents to bypass the rules and to even get the opportunity to live 'on the edge'. For me, if I don’t tell the truth or even exaggerate a story it bothers me.
Growing up I was naughty, or should I say, a curious teenager. I did the kind of stock standard things back in the day - you know the whole "I’m staying at a friend's house" when, in fact, I wasn't really there.
READ: What's the strangest thing your kids have put in their mouth?
I recall one night telling my parents that I was at a good friend's place when I was actually at another friend's house. When her folks went to bed, we snuck out, swapped our PJs for our clothes that we hid in the driveway bushes, and hit the thriving metropolis that is Pietermaritzburg.
I hid my school report in the back of my cupboard for weeks pretending it hadn’t arrived yet, and also hid a tattoo for years.
