A recent trend on TikTok has taken the internet by storm, leaving many social media users shocked and aghast. The viral sensation revolves around sliced mayonnaise, a concept that has sparked a heated debate among viewers.

While some people have taken to social media to express their astonishment and bemusement, others have shared their own thoughts on the unconventional concept.

What is mayonnaise?

Mayonnaise is a creamy condiment made from a combination of oil, egg yolks, vinegar or lemon juice and other seasonings. The emulsification process, which binds the oil and water-based ingredients together, gives mayonnaise its unique properties. Understanding the science behind mayonnaise helps shed light on its characteristics and why it's essential to handle and store it properly.

The rapid dissemination of food-related content on social media has led to an accelerated cycle of food trends, with even seemingly unusual concepts gaining significant attention. The last viral condiment trend was about ‘pink sauce’, which had people from all over the world recreating it and trying to purchase.

Here’s what some social media users had to say:

Taylorr_285 is done with this trend: “If I ever bite into SOLIDIFIED mayo I will crash out”

Usanele could not make sense of it: “What's next? A slice of water?!”

Salmonella_bubblegutz
thought it was an okay idea: “I mean, in theory it would be great for packing a lunch and you don’t want mayo to make the bread soggy.”
