SARS income tax filing dates: A guide for taxpayers
The South African Revenue Services (SARS) has shared the income tax return filing dates for the upcoming tax season.
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has announced the income tax return filing dates for the upcoming tax season. Taxpayers can expect a smoother filing experience this year, thanks to the auto-assessment feature.
Auto-Assessments: 7 – 20 July 2025
SARS will issue auto-assessments to taxpayers with less complicated tax affairs. If you agree with your auto-assessment, there's no need to take further action. If a refund is due, it will be paid automatically into your bank account.
Filing Season for Non-Auto-Assessed Taxpayers: 21 July – 20 October 2025
For taxpayers who are not auto-assessed, the filing season opens on July 21 and closes on October 20, 2025.
Provisional Taxpayers: 21 July – 19 January 2026
Provisional taxpayers have until January 19, 2026, to submit their tax returns.
How Auto-Assessment Works
To view your auto-assessment, log into eFiling or the SARS MobiApp. If you agree with the assessment, check if a refund is due or if you owe SARS. If a refund is due, you can expect it within 72 hours. If you owe SARS, make the payment on or before the due date.

- Ensure your SARS details are up to date for a hassle-free filing experience.
- Be aware of email and SMS scams, and report any suspicious activity to [email protected].
- Use eFiling or the SARS MobiApp to manage your tax matters, and make appointments or submit queries online if needed.
