SARS: Check your banking details before tax season!
Updated | By Stacey & J Sbu
SARS has urged South African taxpayers to ensure their banking details are up to date before the 2025 tax season.

Before the start of the 2025 tax season, the South African Revenue Services (SARS) has urged all taxpayers to ensure that their banking details are correct.
With the rollout of auto-assessments, SARS wants to guarantee that taxpayers’ details are accurate for a “hassle-free filing experience”.
From 7 July, the auto-assessments will begin. This means that South African taxpayers will have until the day before, 6 July, to make sure that their banking details are up to date.
In terms of the auto-assessment feature, if taxpayers agree to it, it is not necessary to accept the assessment. If a refund is due, the refund will be paid into the bank account, reports BusinessTech.

SARS has, however, urged taxpayers to wait for notification from them via SMS or email before they log in to check.
“If you agree with the assessment, check if a refund is due to you or if you owe SARS. If a refund is due, then there is nothing more you have to do — you can log out and wait for the refund, which you can expect within approximately 72 hours, provided your banking details with SARS are correct,” it said.
