The Gupta brothers are back in the public eye, but this time they are in desperate need of help.

The Gupta brothers were arrested in Dubai on 2 June, four months after Interpol issued a red notice for them on charges of fraud and money-laundering linked to the R24.9-million Nulane Investment.

Rajesh and Atul Gupta still remain in custody with no extradition in sight.

However, it will be highly unlikely that the extradition proceedings will be shared with the public. 

This drama in Dubai is gaining the attention of worldwide news, with the alleged crimes of these brothers under the microscope. 

As reported by News 24, a UAE lawyer stressed that the anticipated legal battle that would follow the NPA's request for the Gupta brothers' extradition would "definitely not be open to the public... because it is so political".

The brothers are lawyered up and are fighting any effort to have them extradited to South Africa, as that would mean that they finally have to face their criminal charges.

The terms of South Africa's extradition agreement with the UAE state that the brothers can only be extradited if they have been charged with or convicted of an extraditable offence.

It has been reported that the brothers still remain in custody at a police station in Dubai.
