Mandela Day: Stacey and J Sbu’s emotional morning
Updated | By Stacey & J Sbu
In honour of Mandela Day, Stacey and J Sbu were part of an amazing team from East Coast Radio who handed the keys over to MaShangase in Inchanga today.

This morning, Stacey Norman and J Sbu joined the rest of East Coast Radio at Inchanga.
The reason? Presenting Ms Thembele Shangase with the keys to her new home in honour of Mandela Day.
From East Coast Radio headquarters, the teams gathered and drove in convoy to Inchanga, KwaZulu-Natal.
Upon arrival, there was a wave of emotion as presenters and residents rejoiced.
Stacey spoke about MaNdlovu, a loving friend of MaShangase.
“I was incredibly moved by MaNdlovu, who was so happy for MaShangase. When MaShangase 'broke protocol' and called her up to speak, it was emotional,” she said.
She spoke passionately about the spirit of community within the area and how they all came together in support of their neighbour.
“It speaks to sisterhood, community, people caring and how when one person wins, we all win. She was so deserving [of this], it was a very warm day,” Stacey shared.
The raw emotion was evident on J Sbu’s face as he described how good it felt to be part of such a life-changing initiative.
”I'm grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it. Mandela Day reminds the community that helping can happen in different forms, and that we have the underlying purpose to serve others. Today, I got to do that through a brand that I love so much, East Coast Radio. Umuntu, ngumuntu ngabantu literally translates to ‘a person is a person through persons’. That is what we need to constantly remind ourselves of every day,” he shared.
He went on to thank all those involved in not just building a home for the Shangase family but “for restoring their dignity and giving the community faith and hope that help is coming. I pray that people who got to witness today on air and via social media are inspired to do their bit where they can.”
