Is this Limpopo man back from the dead?

According to viral tweets, a man from Limpopo was spotted in Gauteng weeks after his funeral. When his coffin was opened, a doll was found in his place.

The above information from several sources allegedly gives us the following information: 

  • The boy was 18 when he 'died' in March 2022
  • He was from and buried in Ha-Gelebe outside Thohoyandou, Venda, Limpopo
  • He was allegedly spotted in Gauteng

It was reported by several news outlets which then sparked a reaction online and left Mzansi in shock. It has been reported that there were no signs of human remains inside the coffin when it was exhumed, although a doll was found in his place.

This has further raised speculation and theories online. Many believe that the boy faked his own death, while others have taken a humorous stance on the matter. 

Some of the comments were as follows:

  • "Mission impossible, theres a criminal act between."
  • "Who claimed he’d died? Was there life insurance money?"
  • "The walking dead. So vele we live with zombies."
  • "No yasemzini this is the first time i see such a thing in my life"
  • "Ayibo there's no witchcraft here someone somewhere knows something. For some reasons they decided to fake the whole shebang 'funeral thing'"
  • "It's very normal in Limpopo,nothing new"
  • "f the family was scheming insurance why would they request for the body to be exhumed? The state cannot exhume without the family claiming that the deceased is alive."
  • "People cried for nothing."
As you can see, this story has sparked adverse reactions and so many opinions around South Africa. More on this developing story will be shared when available.
