The Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) has sounded the alarm on the spread of fake news and misinformation surrounding the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) Act rollout.

The agency urges the public to be cautious and verify information before sharing it, as official statements will only be issued by the Department of Transport and RTIA.

Currently, AARTO is only operational in the municipalities of Johannesburg and Tshwane, contrary to claims of a wider national rollout. The RTIA emphasise that strengthening laws for road traffic compliance is crucial and AARTO is a vital tool in achieving this goal.

Effective implementation will play a critical role in enforcing laws and making roads safer for all users.

The RTIA calls on citizens to remain vigilant against misinformation and combat the spread of fake news. To stay informed, the public is encouraged to double-check information with official RTIA channels, such as the RTIA website, social media accounts and reputable media outlets.

The agency further reminded the public that official updates and statements will be disseminated through these channels. They urged everyone to join the movement towards responsible road usage.

For more information or assistance with traffic fines, you can contact RTIA at 0871 227 861.
